My Projects
A showcase of some of the projects that I have been a part of or have created myself over the years.
Heldritch Rush
The Honours Project
My Honours Project for Uni, aptly named "The Honours Project". The game is an autobiographical look at the mindset I was in when trying to initially come up with the idea. The player is asked by Scott (me) for help by inspiring him with some music. He takes them on a journey into his mind showing past prototypes, some commentary on game development and a darkly humorous story.

My research focuses on the effects that audio can have on player experience when supporting narrative. Specifically looking at voice acting, environmental storytelling and music. Investigating deeper into player experience, I wanted to find out how audio can enhance narrative immersion and emotional storytelling.

Below is both a trailer to the game and a full playthrough.

Heldritch Rush
This game started off as a university module that 6 of us developed with the theme being "Market Trends". This was good because it meant we had a lot of creative freedom to build something unique. We decided to look at De-makes and Remakes. Particularly taking inspiration from Bloodborne PSX. Ultimately we build a 90's inspired, isometric rail-shooter.
We then competed in DARE academy, a competition run by the university in which we were able to go to London at EGX/Comicon in October 2024. That month was busy for us because we were also asked to showcase at the DCA in Dundee for an event run by Ninja Kiwi and then Edinburgh's Nation Museum of Scotland for their Game On event.
We didn't win the competition but we did win the Chrome Productions award. Chrome Productions specialize in creating trailers and they choose their own winner and the prize is creating a trailer for the winning team.
Since then we have returned to the DCA for an event in January 2025 and hope to continue development of the game in the future. At present, the demo is available on itch.io to be downloaded for free should want to give it a bash.
Alien Museum
In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have named this one "Alien Museum". I initially picked it because the intention was to do a funny narrative on what aliens would think our history is. In some respect, I have kept that in, but after playing Alan Wake 2, I felt like taking a more Meta approach and made the game all about "Scott Cambell". Or at least a parody of him.
The primary aim of the project was to use middleware to achieve a good sound design. This can be observed via the footstep sounds. I then experimented with Audio Reactive Systems through materials and niagara. I am not a great level or narrative designer by any means but i always believe that any audio should be able to synergize with them, complementing it but not overshadowing it.

This work was carried out in Unreal Engine 5.2
MAX MSP Projects
These videos show some of the fun things I did while using Max. The first video shows a simple setup which triggered audio and changed the colour pixelation on the camera feed. The second shows a simple randomized drum loop. The third video was one of my University submissions which pushed Max as far as I could. My initial idea was trying to find a way to create random sounds using only your hands. This turned into a theremin like tracking tool that can trigger audio and alter its pitch and speed.

Given more time, the webcam theremin could be taken further and become a powerful way to change the way sound is created.

Max 8 Projects
Hero's Spirit
Hero's Spirit is a Short film by a group of students in 4th year at Dundee University. I was asked to do some composing for their project so i helped them make a funk track that was based around that genre of music in the 60s/70s.

I don't own the rights to the video content so below is a preview only of their work and some of the composing I did to accompany it.
